The American Nuclear Society student chapter at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaig has chosen Administrative Aide Barbara J. Russell as the 2018 Staff Member of the Year for Nuclear, Plasma, and Radiological Engineering.
Russell joined the university in June 1999, working in the Office of Research in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences until 2006. Before joining NPRE, she also worked in the Office of the Associate Provost for International Affairs and the Office of International Programs and Studies until 2012, and the ADM Institute for the Prevention of Postharvest Loss housed within the Office of the Chancellor until 2015. Russell joined NPRE in June 2015.
Russell interacts with undergraduate and graduate students while organizing events, arranging travel, and directing students toward resources and professors. She said she loves to work with students and hear about their adventures, family, and goals, and thrives on being of assistance and helping others.
“I am honored that the American Nuclear Society members selected me for this award,” Russell said. “I feel so very blessed to have the privilege of working with students and others.”
