Nuclear Power
One of NPRE's three paths of study
Making a difference
Nuclear engineers work to solve the world’s energy problems through the efficient, reliable and safe production of nuclear power.
Careers and employers
Many of those who gain a degree with this focus go to work for major utility companies, such as Exelon Corp., FirstEnergy, Duke Energy, or Entergy. Our graduates may also be drawn to startup companies such as NuScale, Transatomic Power or TerraPower.
Design consulting firms including Sargent & Lundy and Enercon Services, Inc., are options, as well as risk and safety consulting firms such as Jensen Hughes.
Regulators and policy makers, including the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the U.S. Department of Energy, employ nuclear engineers, as do national laboratories. The US Nuclear Navy also employs nuclear engineers.
