NPRE Adjunct Research Professor Chul-Hwa Song chosen as vice chair of ANS Thermal-Hydraulic Division

Dr. Chul-Hwa Song, an adjunct research professor in the Illinois Nuclear, Plasma and Radiological Engineering Department, has been chosen as the Vice Chair of the American Nuclear Society Thermal-Hydraulic Division, and the division’s Chair Elect.

Song is a Distinguished Tenured Researcher for the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) and is Chief Major Professor of Advanced Nuclear Systems Engineering for the Korean University of Science and Technology (UST).

At NPRE, Song has taught senior design students this semester, and will teach Nuclear Reactor Safety in the fall. He also has been facilitating a bilateral collaboration between NPRE and KAERI on nuclear safety research and is now making efforts of introducing KAERI’s safety analysis tools to NPRE for education and research purposes.

As the Vice Chair for the ANS Thermal-Hydraulic Division, Song will support the Division Chair’s activities and represent the division on technical matters. When he assumes the Chair position, he will represent the division on ANS activities, chair the division’s executive committee, supervise the division’s program committee, and will serve on the division’s nominating committee and honors and awards committee.
