Research Assistant Prof. Daniel Andruczyk brought the case for fusion research to the nation’s capital in March as he met with Illinois lawmakers.

March 14 was Fusion Day, set aside for congressmen and senators to hear from various institutions working in the discipline. The goal was to build awareness among federal lawmakers and provide them a big picture of future applications fusion can provide.

Andruczyk met with representatives from the Offices of Democratic Reps. Bill Foster and Sean Casten, Republican Rep. Rodney Davis, and Democratic Sens. Tammy Duckworth and Dick Durbin. Andruczyk shared how the University of Illinois and State of Illinois could be involved and benefit from future research funding.

“To achieve this the current levels of funding need to be maintained or increased as this will allow the universities to really make some inroads in our fundamental understanding of fusion energy research,” Andruczyk said.
