Alumni, students and faculty of the Department of Nuclear, Plasma, and Radiological Engineering will come together Friday, September 30, during NPRE 2011 Interchange.
The University of Illinois American Nuclear Society Student Chapter has won the national ANS Samuel Glasstone Award! The Glasstone Award recognizes the outstanding student ANS section of the past year, and this is the first time in the honor’s 41-year history that Illinois has won. The Illinois group won an Honorable Mention designation in 1988.
In honor of our esteemed professor’s retirement, NPRE will host a reception from 2 to 4 p.m., Thursday, September 29, 2011, on the third floor of Engineering Hall, 1308 W. Green St.
The NPRE Department would like to take this opportunity to collect stories from our alumni, detailing the contributions that they have made to help cope with and rebound from this disaster.
NPRE undergraduate Peter R. Fiflis of Indian Head Park, Illinois, has won an honorable mention in the Barry M. Goldwater scholarship competitions for the 2011–12 academic year.
Awarded during the ANS student convention in April, the commendation from the American Nuclear Society Student Sections Committee recognizes leadership that has resulted in significant achievements and the advancement of the nuclear community. The committee also recognized a student from the Texas A&M University section.
Cited for his leadership and commitment in guiding nuclear engineering education the past 50 years at the University of Illinois, Prof. Barclay G. Jones has been presented with the 2010 NPRE Distinguished Alumni Award.
