A poster explaining technology used in the Virtual Education and Research Laboratory (VERL) earned three Nuclear, Plasma, and Radiological Engineering (NPRE) at Illinois students the Best Undergraduate Poster Award at the 2015 American Nuclear Society Student Conference.

Justin V. Joseph of Glenview, Illinois; Cory L. Scribner of Champaign, Illinois; and Shanna M. Bobbins of Bedford, New Hampshire, shared the award for the work on the Oculus Rift, a pair of 3D virtual goggles that allows wearers to immerse themselves in virtual reality by tracking both translational and rotational motion. The equipment is used to heighten the experience of nuclear reactor virtual models developed previously in Prof. Rizwan Uddin’s VERL facility. See related story.

Joseph and Scribner crafted the poster, and Bobbins presented the work at the 2015 ANS Student Conference held April 9-12 at Texas A&M University.
