NPRE graduate student Andrei Rykhlevskii awarded Kuck CSE Scholarship

NPRE graduate student Andrei Rykhlevskii is the 2019 recipient of the Kuck Computational Science & Engineering Scholarship.

The Kuck Scholarship supports current graduate students in The Grainger College of Engineering who are involved in areas related to Computational Science and Engineering. Students must demonstrate through their application materials that their research or graduate projects focus on hardware, software, architecture, or applications within the field of computational science and engineering.

Pursuing a doctoral degree in NPRE with a concentration in CSE, Rykhlevskii works with NPRE Prof. Kathryn Huff in investigating load-following capabilities of molten salt reactors.

“My current research focuses on developing computational tools for online reprocessing simulation and safety analysis for molten salt reactors,” he said. “Another focus of my research is a multiphysics analysis of accident transient scenarios for such advanced nuclear systems.”

Rykhlevskii earned a master’s degree in NPRE in 2018. He earned a bachelor’s degree in 2010 from Bauman Moscow State Technical University, concentrating on reactor physics and nuclear fuel cycles. Ultimately, his career goal is to develop tools for computational nuclear engineering in a national laboratory.

Kuck Scholarships are awarded in honor of David J. Kuck, a professor of computer science from 1965-1993.
