Energy, Environment and Everyday Life MOOC goes live

Nuclear, Plasma, and Radiological Engineering alumni and many other University of Illinois graduates may well remember Prof. David Ruzic’s NPRE 101 class, and him blowing things up in every lecture. The university has  decided to immortalize that class experience by turning it into a Massively Open OnLine Course through Coursera.

The Energy, Environment and Everyday Life MOOC goes live on Monday, April 24th through Coursera: https://www.coursera.org/learn/energy-environment-life .

This course is absolutely free and people can view it at their own pace. It offers energy basics, covers all fossil fuels, examines the full range of renewable energies, and explores nuclear systems in depth. Along the way, students will visit a brewery, see how fireworks are made, watch Professor Ruzic walk on water (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rvi8Wd9rAlA ), plus learn many more fun aspects of Everyday Life.

The video segments are fast-paced, informative, and enjoyable. The MOOC was produced as a public service, and is appropriate for audiences at all levels. Former University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Chancellor Phyllis Wise set such projects in motion when the Illinois joined other select universities in providing high-quality content to Coursera. This course is based on courses and material Professor Ruzic has used internally in his teaching for decades. The Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning at Illinois produced the MOOC over the last three years.
