Bechtel Visit Brings Support for NPRE Programs

Desmond Chan, Manager of Technology for Bechtel Power Corporation, brought with him a show of the company's support when he visited NPRE and the College of Engineering on Monday.

Chan presented checks of $5,000 each to NPRE and the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, along with a letter from Greg Ashley, Principal Vice-President and President, Nuclear Power, for Bechtel Power. "We appreciate and value our relationship with the University of Illinois and are pleased to continue supporting your STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) programs," Ashley said in the letter.

Chan had visited NPRE previously when he participated in the Department's 2011 Interchange event, and met with and interviewed several students. Monday, he met with NPRE Department Head Jim Stubbins, CEE Department Head Amr Elnashai, College of Engineering Interim Dean Mike Bragg, and Associate Dean for Administration Bruce Vojak.

NPRE alumnus Neil Howard, MS 71, PhD 74, of Bechtel visited the Department earlier in the month during the Engineering Career Fair.
