Visiting Federal Nuclear Chair to be Featured on Focus 580

U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Chairman Dale E. Klein, who will be visiting campus early this fall, will be featured in a WILL Focus 580 interview on Friday, September 5, starting at 10:06 a.m. Central Daylight Time. Focus 580 Host David Inge will chat with Klein regarding "The Future of Nuclear Energy."

The radio interview will precede Klein's visit to the Illinois campus on Thursday, September 11, when he will take part in a panel discussion, "Vision for the Future of Nuclear Energy," from 3:30-5:00 p.m, at the Alice Campbell Alumni Center. Open to the general public, the event will also include panelists William E. Burchill, President of the American Nuclear Society; and Charles "Chip" Pardee, Chief Nuclear Officer, Exelon Nuclear, and Senior Vice President of Exelon Corporation.

At 7:30 p.m. on September 11, John B. Ritch III, Director General of the World Nuclear Association, will deliver the featured lecture, "Accelerating the Nuclear Renaissance: A Human and Environmental Imperative," in the Alice Campbell Alumni Center. The lecture is also open to the public.

The panel discussion and lecture are part of the 50th Anniversary Celebration activities of the Department of Nuclear, Plasma, and Radiological Engineering at Illinois. The celebration will continue with Invited talks during the day on Friday, September 12, at the Alice Campbell Alumni Center, with speakers including:
• Brian L. Renwick, Executive Vice President, Sargent & Lundy LLC
• David D. Carlson, Sandia National Laboratory
• Eric D. Isaacs, Deputy Laboratory Director for Science Programs, Argonne National Laboratory
• William W. Moses, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, who will give the talk, "Positron Emission Tomography Instrumentation: Present Status and Future Directions"
• and Robert L. Hirsch, Senior Energy Advisor at MISI, who will give the talk, "Peaking of World Oil Production and Its Mitigation."

Guests registered for the 50th Anniversary celebration are invited to additional activities including an NPRE alumni and friends dinner on Friday, September 12, and a tent party on Saturday, September 13. More details and registration information are available online at www.ne.uiuc.edu/50th.
